The Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce welcomed Cross Creek Meadows Therapeutic Riding and Retreat Center as a new chamber member with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on March 19. Cross Creek Meadows is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides therapeutic riding or interaction with horses to bring confidence and healing to children, veterans and others with disabilities. A retreat-style setting on 36 acres houses the Equine Center consisting of a five-stall barn and a covered arena. Cross Creek Meadows exists to provide an opportunity for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth through equine-assisted activities, therapy and retreats. The CCM board of directors consists of Darla Wurtz, Jeri Penny, Charles Little (board chair), Jamie McLean (co-chair), Sherri Le Noir (secretary), Steve Nance, Joe Cayton and Kay Alston. Coach Windy Roberts and her Lady Goats are off to a great start in district play with a 4-1 record. Overall, Groesbeck has a 12-6 record. This past week, the Lady Goats defeated Elkhart 3-0 and dominated Crockett 23-1.
Golf enthusiasts will have the opportunity in April not only to enjoy their favorite game but also to help in a worthy cause: raising money for an arena cover at Cross Creek Meadows, an organization that serves veterans, first responders, children with disabilities and others interested in equine-assisted activities and therapies.
Coach John Moody and his Goats baseball team went 3-0 this past week defeating Elkhart 6-5 and picking up a win after a Crockett forfeit in district play. Groesbeck also picked up a 17-6 victory over Rockdale in a non-district game. The Goats have an 11-8 overall record and a 3-0 record in district play.
