AN EGG OR A TENNIS BALL?

By Clif Fox, Church of Christ

My sermon series over recent weeks has focused on Bucket Lists for Victorious Lives found in the epistle to the Philippians. The message last Sunday focused on a list of things to forget based on Paul’s admonition in Philippians 3:13-14:

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Your Focus Needs More Focus

By Clifton Fox, Church of Christ

We were born again for victory (1st Jn. 5:4). However, sometimes we don’t feel so Victorious: marriages struggle, church life goes cold; Life becomes lonely.  Paul offers the solution in Philippians 4:8: Your Focus Needs More Focus.  In this text, he provided a bucket list of things your eyes and heart should concentrate on daily?

No Wiggle Room in “Must”

By Clifton Fox, Church of Christ

When I was a child, my mom often gave me instructions that included the word “must.” For example: You “must” eat your vegetables before you can have dessert. Or she would say, You “must” do your chores before you can go outside to play.  I knew precisely what she meant by the word “must.” There was no wiggle room. I had to do exactly what she said, the way she said to do it…or else.

Jesus himself addressed the correct way true worshippers “must” worship God (Jn 4:23-24). He said “True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him Must worship in spirit and truth.”

Some say, “It’s OK to NOT worship exactly the way God says in the New Testament. Jesus didn’t think so. Here is God’s assessment of worshippers with such a poor attitude:

The Most Glorious Piece of Art was the Son’s

By Clifton Fox, Church of Christ

A very wealthy art collector owned a collection of paintings worth several million dollars. His wife died while giving birth to their only child. As his son grew, he loved to draw and had painted a simple picture of he and his dad. The boy’s art brought his dad great joy. Sadly, a tragic accident took the boy’s life when he was 10 years old. The father never recovered from his loss. He too died not long after; leaving no heir for his massive art collection. Per the man’s will, his executor was to sell the valuable art at auction. However, the will stipulated his son’s painting was to be the first piece of art sold. A large group of art collectors and wealthy investors gathered for the estate auction.
