Conservative coalition maps out 2024 political plans

Stone County Conservative Coalition wants to shake up regional Republican politics, and the group’s plan to do so will be unveiled at a 6 p.m. forum Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Springfield Hall at 199 Park Road 35 near Groesbeck.

SCCC Vice President Jana Raymond said in an email to group members that the meeting will be a “call to action to anyone interested in maintaining conservative values in our region.”

SCCC’s focus is on Limestone County and all the contiguous counties to it, except for McLennan County.

“Stone County Conservatives are greasing the wheels, readying for the months leading up to all the 2024 elections that will impact the lives of citizens,” Raymond said.

The State Primary Election in Texas for 2024 is March 5.

Raymond said in an interview that a candidate is expected to make an announcement at the forum about a run for a key spot on the ballot. She noted that the group focuses on local and state races, rather than federal ones.

The forum will also include a presentation by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, and the group will be sharing with voters that organization’s Fiscal Responsibility Index on how Texas lawmakers have voted on budget and free market issues, Raymond said.

During the past year the coalition’s meetings have focused on border security, child and other human trafficking, banking issues related to digital currency and protecting the rights of animal owners. “Now, we’re moving forward with the 2024 elections,” Raymond said.

Raymond said the SCCC is a loose coalition, and that it has an email list of about 150. The organization officially formed in 2022, but its members have been associated since about 2007, she said. The group’s Facebook page has 155 members, and it was created in January. It notes that SCCC had its startup meeting in January also.

Raymond said the goal of the forum’s organizers is to inform voters but not necessarily to gain new members. “Everyone is always welcome and that would be fine, but that’s not the purpose of the meeting,” she said.
