Free movie night at Old Fort Parker on Friday
Residents and their families are invited to Old Fort Parker on Friday, June 9, to watch a movie, “The Searchers,” starring John Wayne.
Although the fictional movie was filmed in Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and California, The Searchers is based on the true story of the kidnapping of Cynthia Ann Parker from Fort Parker in Limestone County.
John Wayne stars as Ethan Edwards, a man obsessively tracking down his kidnapped niece. Fifteenyear-old Natalie Wood stars as his niece.
Admission is free, and attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.
Gates open at 7:30 p.m., and the movie will begin after 8, said Bill Ward.
Hot dogs, snacks, and soft drinks will be available for sale as a fundraiser, with proceeds benefitting the FFA chapters of Mexia, Groesbeck, and Coolidge.
The event is presented by the Limestone County Farm Bureau.
