Groesbeck council approves budget, tax rate

In their regular meeting on Tuesday, September 15, Groesbeck Council covered a lot of ground. A public hearing regarding the city budget for fiscal year 2020-2021 was held, and as there were no questions or comments from those in attendance, Council went on to adopt the budget as presented. The tax rate for 2020, proposed as 0.6921 per $100 dollar valuation, effectively a 0% increase from last year, was also approved.

In other business, the Council said farewell to Council Member Michael Thompson, who will be moving to northern Arkansas later this month to be closer to his grandchildren.

“We hate to see him go because we all love him and he’s going to be really hard to replace on this Council,” said Mayor Ray O’Docharty. “I’d like to present Michael Thompson with recognition and appreciation for Outstanding Service to the City of Groesbeck City Council from 2016-2020.”

For full coverage of other decisions made at this council meeting, such as selection of an electric provider for the city when the current contract ends in 2021 and how the council voted regarding a request to provide Coronavirus Relief Funding (CRF) to Groesbeck ISD, look for the complete story in next week’s edition of the Journal.
