Groesbeck Homecoming has arrived

Welcome home all exes and visitors

Groesbeck Homecoming 2022 has arrived!

A big welcome is extended to all ex-students, former residents, and many friends. Numerous activities will be taking place during the homecoming weekend.

Homecoming will kick off Thursday night, Oct. 6 with the annual homecoming bonfire at 8 p.m. at the City Park Baseball Softball Complex. Gates will open at 7:15 p.m There will be plenty of parking within the Baseball Softball Complex area. The bonfire will be held in the field in front of the parking area to the left of the fields. Only high school seniors will be allowed to park inside the field near the bonfire.

On Friday morning at 9 a.m. a community-wide pep rally is planned for at the High School.

On Friday night the Groesbeck Masonic Lodge will sponsor a Cowboy Stew Supper under the direction of Dennis Wilson. The meal will be served in the GHS Cafeteria. The cost is $8.00 per person. Tickets will be available at the door.

Pre-game activities will begin on Friday night around 6:30 p.m. at Goat Stadium The pre-game activities will include the presentation of the GHS Class of 1972, as this class is celebrating its 50-year reunion.

Other presentations will be the introduction of Mr. and Mrs. Homecoming-Head Football Coach/ Athletic Director Jerry Bomar and his wife Dr. Bonnie Bomar, the high school principal. Also to be recognized is the alumni tennis team and the homecoming parade marshal, Jim Longbotham. As well as the Groesbeck Ex-Students homecoming queen will be announced and crowned.

The Groesbeck High School Band will perform its halftime show during the pre-game activities. During halftime, the Groesbeck High School Homecoming Queen and nominees will be presented.

The Groesbeck Goats will face Kemp in the homecoming football game with the kickoff being at 7:30 p.m. in a District 8-3A game.

The homecoming parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. A separate parade list and rules are elsewhere in this issue. Jim Longbotham will be the parade marshall. The parade theme for this year is the 1980s.

The Groesbeck Ex-Students Association will be hosting a taco lunch at the Groesbeck Convention Center, 106 E. Navasota Street. The meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 8. The meal will be catered by Mi Rancho Restaurant of Groesbeck and will include tacos, rice, beans, hot sauce, chips, and sopaipillas. Tickets are $15.00 each.

Following the lunch, the Ex-students Association will honor the Groesbeck High School Class of 1972. As stated previously, this class is observing its 50th since graduating from GHS. The Class of 1972 will receive their 50-year diplomas.

The Groesbeck Ex-Students Association reminds all exes that Ex-Students dues are $15.00 per ex-students. These dues help with various homecoming expenses and also help pay for scholarships that the association awards to GHS graduates each year.

Several class reunions are planned for the homecoming weekend.

Groesbeck Tennis Alumni Reunion. On this Friday night, all GHS tennis alumni are asked to be at the homecoming pre-game presentation. On Saturday there will be a float for the homecoming parade which begins at 10:30 a.m. and then a homecoming reunion lunch will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the home of Lauren and Stephen Spencer at 289 LCR 788, Groesbeck.

The Groesbeck High School Class of 1972 will have its 50th-year reunion in the Club Room of the Groesbeck Convention Center. The reunion will follow the Groesbeck Ex-Students luncheon and program.

Also on Saturday following the Ex-Students luncheon, the Groesbeck High School Classes of 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, and 1959 will have a combined reunion at the Groesbeck Convention Center.

On this Saturday, October 8, the Blackshear-Washington Exes will have a reunion at 3 p.m. in the white gym at Enge-Washington. A meal will be provided. Special guest speakers will be Coach Lorenzo Miles and Coach Frankie Smith, Jr.

Again, a very big welcome to Groesbeck Homecoming 2022!
