Parents notified of COVID-19 cases in GISD campuses

Just a week after the first day of school parents of Groesbeck students received a letter advising them of students with positive COVID-19 cases inside their child’s campuses.

H.O.W. Whitehurst notified of a confirmed case in the second-grade and Enge-Washington parents were notified that of a fourth-grade student. In the Middle school, a seventh-grade student also confirmed positive for COVID-19. Groesbeck High School confirmed a student was present on the GHS campus and participated in varsity football practice on Wednesday. Upon entering the field house on Sat., Aug. 8, the individual was screened by GHS football coaches and the student reported no COVID-19 symptoms.

It appears that all of the students were not infected with COVID-19 while on the campuses or it does not appear that any student met the definition of close contact as defined by the Texas Education Agency.

Groesbeck ISD stated in the letters that the campuses have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Due to privacy requirements, they will not be releasing the name of the individual or details that may identify him or her.

GISD also stated they are working closely with the local health department on this matter, and the local health department will contact any individuals determined to be in close contact with the infected individual.

While they do not have reason to believe that those who were not in close contact with the infected individual have reason to be concerned, they ask that you, as always, watch for symptoms of COVID-19.

Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:

- Temperature of l 00.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;

- Sore throat;

- New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);

- Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or

- New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.
