Pee Wee football playoffs began in Groesbeck last Saturday

Groesbeck proved to be the perfect host for the first round of the Heart of Texas PeeWee Football Tournament, American Division Saturday, November 2 at the Groesbeck High football field. Groesbeck hosted six games in the bantam (5-7), junior (8-9) and senior (10-12) divisions. Tyrell Hobbs, president of the Groesbeck Pee Wee Heart of Texas Football League reported, “We had a crowd of over 2000 come for all of the games.”

The Groesbeck football teams in each division, unfortunately, played the perfect hosts by losing their three games. The Bantams lost to Corsicana 20-0. In the second Bantam game, Franklin beat Mexia 16-6 The Juniors lost to Corsicana 36-12. In the second Junior game, Mexia beat marlin 28-0. The Seniors lost to Mexia 38-28. In the other Senior game, Corsicana trounced Franklin 44-0.

That sets up the second round of the playoffs or the semi-finals to be played at Centerville High School Saturday, November 9. In this coming round, the American Division winners will be joined by the National Division first-round winners. In the Bantam round, Corsicana faces Franklin at 9:00. Then it’s Palestine versus Trinity at 10:30.

The Junior teams are Palestine against Houston County (Crockett) at 12 noon. Corsicana plays Mexia at 1:30. In the Senior games, Madisonville plays Houston County at 3:00. The day winds up with Corsicana playing Mexia at 4:30. The Super Bowl to crown a champion will be played in Mexia at Blackcat Field November 16 with the Bantam game at 11:00, the Junior game at 12:30 and the senior game at 2:00.

Hobbs explained what was next on the agenda for the Groesbeck chapter of the league, “We will have an end of the year award ceremony for our local teams. That time and date haven’t been set yet.”

He continued, “Then in the spring, we will have sign-ups for the next season. We would love for all to return and for more to sign up.”
