Thornton Senior News

We had a blessed day on the 13th with sixteen seniors getting lunches. Those on the receiving end were Joe and Betty Reynolds, Roger and Linda Watson, Hank and Elle Staniszewski, Bill and Elizabeth Neason, Fonetta Simmons, Earl Mask, Neennah German, Ann Brown, Gayla Lind, Donna Lloyd, Janice Bilbrey and myself. We had a good lunch, which included the Breakfast burrito from Sonic that the center is purchasing with money that is being sent due to Covid-19 thru HOTCOG.

We received some more good little salad tomatoes from Candise Neal, thanks, Candice. Also, a surprise baggie containing two masks that were donated by the Thornton Fire Department thru a donation to them to be distributed. Thanks to the Dept.

Our menu for Thursday, August 20th will be Smothered Steak, Mixed Vegetables, Mashed Potatoes, Hot Roll and Pears, Tea, and Milk. Hope you can enjoy the meal with us by calling Janice at 254/203- 2769 of your intentions by Wednesday noon if possible.

It’s very gratifying to know that we are now serving 67 meals on wheels daily now in the county. Have a few more on the list but haven’t been able to reach them by phone or they are ineligible for the meals. If in need of this service please call the Groesbeck Senior Citizen office and get signed up. That number is 254/729- 5123.

My heart especially and the entire Thornton Community was saddened this past week at the death of our sweet beloved, Bobbie Reynolds, at the sweet age of 92. She will be missed by all who knew her and she knew a lot of people in this and surrounding counties. She had touched a lot of lives thru her work at the Thornton Post Office and her church work. Also another of our former residents, Mrs. Maurice (Shirley Kennedy) Peery passed away in Palestine after a lengthy illness and was laid to rest here in Thornton, Saturday, Aug. 15th at the age of 99. Both these ladies had been members of the Thornton Senior Citizens group.

Again, let me say WAKE UP AMERICA, be ready to go to the polls and vote in November and vote to SAVE AMERICA.
