Three juveniles arrested for burglary at the high school

Three juveniles were arrested last week after entering the high school unauthorized, stealing a debit card, and attempting to use that card at a local store.

On Thursday, July 8, 2021, Sgt. Bell responded to Groesbeck High School after an employee of the school reported seeing three juveniles walking in the gym hallway.

The school is closed for the summer but contractors were performing work in the gymnasium so the doors leading into that section of the building were unsecured.

The school employee confronted the juveniles and told them they could not be in the building so the juveniles left carrying bags. The employee did not know what the bags contained.

Shortly after, the school employee was then contacted by one of the contractors and informed that the contractor’s debit card was missing. The school employee then contacted the police department and was able to provide a possible identification for one of the juveniles and a description of the other two.

Sgt. Bell then subsequently searched for and located the juveniles. All three juveniles admitted to entering the school and removing property that did not belong to them from the gym area. They also admitted to attempting to use the contractor’s debit card and discarding it near a local convenience store.

A search of the area was conducted and the card was recovered.

Warrants for the juveniles were obtained and they were arrested the following day.

Each juvenile was charged with Burglary of a Building and Credit/Debit Card Abuse and was placed in a juvenile detention center.

“The police department and the school district have an outstanding relationship and I’m glad the school employee was in the right place at the right time,” said Groesbeck Police Chief Chris Henson, “Their decision to intervene was instrumental in us getting the case and Sgt. Bell resolving it as quickly as he did.”
