TxDOT maintenance crews pretreating roads for anticipated sub-freezing temperatures and precipitation

With the potential for sub-freezing temperatures and precipitation in the forecast, the Texas Department of Transportation began winter weather operations around the Waco District Feb. 1

TxDOT maintenance crews began pretreating roads with a brine treatment which lowers the freezing point of moisture on the roads surface, to help stop ice from forming.

Elevated structures such as bridges and overpasses will be completed first, as they experience freezing temperatures first. Once structures are complete the team will begin pretreating major roadway mainlanes, and trouble areas in the Waco District counties.

TxDOT encourages motorists to give TxDOT vehicles at least 200 feet of space as they treat the roadways.

Individuals are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel; if individuals must travel, buckle up, drive to conditions, increase following distance between you and drivers in front of you, be extra cautious on bridges, overpasses, ampos, turns and shaded areas and do not use cruise control or lane assist.

Individuals are also encouraged to stay up to date on the latest weather conditions.
