I have always enjoyed canoeing so when I heard of a place along the Brazos where you can rent a canoe and paddle its scenic stream, I immediately made reservations and sweet-talked my daughter Andrea into joining me. She agreed, not realizing that the adventure under the sun would take close to five hours.

Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes program starts in August

Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes is a program for people with Type 2 Diabetes. It is a 5-week program that explores a new topic each week. Get the facts from diabetic experts and professional educators, ask the questions you want answered, get the encouragement you need to make positive changes and meet others who have the same concerns you do. Classes will be held on Tuesdays beginning August 3rd through August 31st from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the McLennan County Extension Office located at 4224 Cobbs Dr., Waco, TX 76710. These classes are offered free of charge. Food manager certification training course offered in August

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, McLennan County, and McLennan Community College Continuing Education department is offering a professional food manager certification training course. This program will be offered for $125.00 on August 9th and 16th at the McLennan County Extension office located at 4224 Cobbs Dr., Waco, Texas 76710. The cost includes training, materials, and a national food manager certification examination. The food manager’s certification will be valid anywhere in the state of Texas for five years. Space is limited so please reserve your space by Friday July 30, 2021 by calling the McLennan County Extension Office at (254) 757-5180.

When the sun comes out to play, many of us make plans to do the same. The summer months bring the promise of backyard barbecues, pick-up games in the park and wasting away lazy afternoons in the water. This year’s summer season feels extra special as COVID-19 vaccines have paved a way for us to once again gather together safely.
