Limestone County Sheriff Urges Vigilance After Surge in Livestock Thefts

The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office is urging cattle owners to remain vigilant following a recent surge in livestock thefts, according to a statement released by Sheriff Murray Agnew on Friday, July 18.

Over the past month, multiple reports have been filed regarding stolen yearlings and calves—particularly those without brands or ear notches, Sheriff Agnew explained in a statement posted online.Authorities report that suspects have been penning cattle on private properties and returning later to load and steal the animals.

One suspect has been identified, and a warrant has been issued in connection with the thefts. The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special Rangers to investigate the incidents.

To help prevent theft, cattle owners are advised to:

  • Conduct daily headcounts and monitor livestock regularly
  • Secure gates, pens, and chutes with locks
  • Mark cattle with brands or ear notches for easier identification
  • Report any suspicious vehicles, trailers, or activity near their property

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office at 254-729-3278.
