Two dead after crash on Hwy 164 Friday morning

Two people were killed and three injured in a one-vehicle crash east of Mart Friday morning according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Around 6:30 a.m., on Friday, October 22, Troopers responded to a fatal crash on State Highway 164 east of County Road 607, east of Mart. A Ford F250 crashed into an embankment after leaving the roadway and striking a guardrail.  The driver was believed to be fatigued.  

The driver, Lisandro Ramirez, 19, of Jacksonville was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Four passengers were transported to surrounding hospitals.  

Three passengers were transported to Baylor Scott and White in Waco one in critical condition, and two are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

One passenger was transported to Baylor Scott and White in Temple in critical condition.

Reports that Israel Ramirez, 30, of Jacksonville had been pronounced dead at Baylor Scott and White in Waco were received around noon on Friday. Next of kin have been notified.

The investigation is still active and ongoing.

“When you’re tired, your body reacts differently than it would if it were fully charged and awake,” Texas DPS said, “Fatigue can impair your ability to operate a motor vehicle by causing a slower reaction time, reduced attentiveness, and weakened information processing skills.”
