Shooting at Hawkins Park Leaves One Dead

 

A shooting early this morning at Hawkins Park left a Groesbeck man dead.

Just after 4 a.m., the Groesbeck Police Department responded to a report of gunfire at the park.

When officers arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Leonard Thomas, was taken to Limestone Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Marcus Hanna.

According to a department news release, the initial investigation indicates that an argument may have occurred between Thomas and another individual shortly before the shooting. The second person fled the scene before officers arrived.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Texas Rangers and the Mart Police Department.
