GHS student body enjoy pancakes, downtown pep rally

The Groesbeck High School football team and student body enjoyed pancakes and a downtown pep rally last Friday morning in downtown Groesbeck.

The Groesbeck First United Methodist Church has sponsored this event for the past several years. Numerous members of the church help prepare the breakfast of pancakes, bacon and various kinds of juices.

The event is held at the Methodist Activities Center (MAC Bldg.) which is located on West Navasota Street in downtown Groesbeck. The City of Groesbeck and the Groesbeck Police Department rope off the entire 200 block of West Navasota Street for the event.

Following the serving of the pancakes, Rev. Steve Nance, Methodist pastor, welcomed the student body of GJS and other visitors. It is understood that practically the entire student body was present with only ten or so students deciding not to attend the event.

Raley Sherrod, Youth Director of the host church, delivered a brief devotional.

On behalf of the football team and the high school, Coach Larry Sloan gave several remarks and introduced head football coach Steve Hale. Coach Hale gave several remarks about the team and the upcoming season and introduced the football players.

Also present was the Groesbeck High School Marching Band with the band playing several tunes including the fight song and the school song. The Color Guard also performed.

The Groesbeck High School cheerleaders led several cheers and were also introduced.

By the way, the Goats opened the 2018 football season with a 60 to 3 victory over Rice High School on this past Friday night.
