Groesbeck Homecoming Activities

Groesbeck Homecoming 2018 will be Friday and Saturday, September 14-15. The affair is generally sponsored by the Groesbeck Ex-Students Association.

Honor classes for homecoming will be those classes ending in “3” and “8”.

Special honor classes will be the Groesbeck High School Class of 1968 and the Washington High School Class of 1968. These classes will be awarded their 50-year diplomas following the Homecoming BBQ on Saturday.

The Lady Goat Basketball team of 1996 will be this year’s honored team. The team won the 1996 State Basketball Championship in Class 3A.

Activities on Friday, Sept. 14, will, perhaps, begin with an open house at the Groesbeck Journal; see related article in this week’s Journal.

Other activities on HC Friday will include the Groesbeck Masonic Lodge Stew Supper at Groesbeck High School from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Pre-game ceremonies at Groesbeck Stadium on Friday will begin at 7 p.m. and will include the presentation of Mr. and Mrs. Homecoming, the Groesbeck Ex-Students Homecoming Queen, presentation of the GHS Class of 1968, the WHS Class of 1968, and the 1996 State Champion Lady Goat Basketball Team. The GHS Band will also present its halftime show during the pre-game ceremonies.

The homecoming football game will feature the Groesbeck Goats vs. the Marlin Bulldogs at Groesbeck Stadium. The GHS student homecoming queen and nominees will be presented at halftime.

Saturday’s homecoming activities are listed below:

Blackshear-Washington Homecoming Breakfast, 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., Groesbeck Middle School. Proceeds will benefit the Ex-Students Scholarship Fund.

Homecoming Parade will be at 10:30 a.m. in downtown Groesbeck. The parade will line up on West Trinity Street shortly after 9 a.m. The theme is “Outstanding Goats”. Call Lisa Stewart at254-292-3155 to place an entry in the parade.

Homecoming BBQ at Groesbeck Convention Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Groesbeck Convention Center. Tickets are $8.00 if purchased in advance or $10 at the door. Tickets will be available at the Groesbeck Journal, Farmers State Bank in Groesbeck and Kosse, and other places of business.

Many class reunion will be held during the homecoming weekend, especially on Saturday afternoon and night.

The Groesbeck Ex-Students Association reminds all exstudents that ex-students dues are $10 per person per year. Dues and other donations may be mailed to Groesbeck Ex-Students Association, P. O. Box 657, Groesbeck, Texas 76642. Dues may also be paid at various homecoming events. The Association gives five $1,000 scholarships to five GHS graduates each year.

The Groesbeck High School Class of 1963 sent a memorial donation to the Ex-Student Scholarship Fund in memory of class member Brenda Jones Miller.

Jerry Parmley, GHS Class of 1955, mailed his dues and a donation to the scholarship fund.

Don Rand, GHS Class of 1968, recently paid his dues and gave a donation to the scholarship fund.
