Groesbeck wins Battle of the River Chamber Challenge

The winner of the second annual Battle of the River Chamber of Commerce Challenge was announced during a Facebook live event on Wednesday, Oct. 11, showing the Groesbeck Chamber prevailed.

Groesbeck raised $492.34 this year with Mexia raising $104.02 Traci LaFoy, Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce executive director, and Jennifer Paul, Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce executive director, came up with the idea of the challenge last year as a way for Mexia and Groesbeck to work together and raise money for the schools.

All the money raised in each city goes to its respective school district.

“We both thought it was very important to do something fun to try to bring our communities together,” LaFoy said. “We want the communities to know that we are not against each other. We are here to serve each other.”

The chambers bounce ideas off of each other and do things cooperatively as often as possible.

“This is a fun way for us to show that as the Chamber of Commerce we not only support our businesses but our schools and communities as a whole,” said Paul. “Working together to compete but also raise money for our school districts is what is all about - good, clean, competitive, rivalry fun.”

In 2022 Mexia won the first annual Battle of the River Chamber Challenge with a total of $ 770.85 collected and Groesbeck trailed with $ 599.45.

A small, mocked version of the Navasota River sign is traded to the winner of the contest. The sign will reside in Groesbeck until next year’s competition when a new winner will be revealed.

A date in time is being planned for the donations to each school district.
