Tiffany Burleson announces run for election to GISD Board

My name is Tiffany Burleson, and I am running for re-election to the GISD School Board. When Bill David Sadler stepped down as the at-large school board trustee, I was asked if I would be willing to step up and take his place and I gladly accepted the position.I have served on the board for almost a year and a half now. In that time, I have had to make some difficult decisions, and you can always count on me to make the best decision for the kids of GISD. From the child that is struggling just to make it to school to the most gifted student, I want to make sure GISD is adequately providing for them by having the best teachers, staff, administration, programs, and opportunities available. GISD does a lot of things right, and I want to stay on that path by ensuring our programs are growing and that they are serving our children well. I plan on making sure of these things by actively being involved and requiring statistics to show the efficacy of our programs. I will ask the hard questions in board meetings and not just go along with the majority. I will consider it my duty to make sure every decision benefits our kids and teachers, and I will fight for what is right.

For those of you that do not know me personally, I am the mother of four children and an Army wife. I graduated from Northwestern State University, and I have served in volunteer positions for most of my adult life.

The Burleson family has deep roots in Groesbeck and have been here for many generations. My husband spent his summers here as a child with his grandfather, Major Derwood Burleson and grandmother, Captain Susan Burleson, out at Turkey Creek. My husband followed the path of his grandparents and became a soldier in the United States Army for a 23-year career. During that time, I stood by his side through three combat deployments, eight moves, and navigated the ins and outs of countless new schools for my four children.

While living the “life of an Army wife” I never let idle hands get the best of me. I served on many different boards and committees to ensure that our community’s best interests were served. Most significantly, I served as the 5th Aviation Battalions family readiness group leader. In that role I was responsible for ensuring the welfare of over 200 Army families, and that the family readiness goals of our battalion’s commander were met.

We chose Groesbeck as our community to retire to. The GISD school system offered all of the programs that our kids needed. Our oldest son, Chandler, joined the Marine Corp and is now married and living on his own. Brody graduated from Groesbeck in 2019, and promptly left for Basic. He is now serving in the National Guard as an Airborne Infantryman and attending college pursuing a business degree. Our daughter Reagan is currently a senior and has gone to State with the Groesbeck tennis team, placed 1st place show heifers at majors, as well as won Grand and Reserve titles for her cattle while attending GISD schools. She will be heading off to college in the Fall to pursue a computer engineering degree. Our youngest son Tripp attends Enge-Washington and enjoys youth sports as well as youth rodeo.

I have been involved in serving our community since we retired here. I currently serve on the Limestone County Fair Association as the Treasurer; it is my fourth year as a member of the board. In the previous role, I (along with the other board members) helped to grow our awards and finances substantially. I also am a member of the Groesbeck Ag Boosters, Republican Women of Limestone County, and one of the newest members of the Women’s Study Club. My family and I are members of the Groesbeck First Baptist church where my husband currently serves as a Deacon. My passion has always been ensuring all children have every opportunity they need to succeed in life, and as a GISD School Board Trustee, I will continue to do my best to ensure that both the parents, teachers and most importantly the children of Groesbeck are represented well. Please vote for me, Tiffany Burleson, for the GISD School Board Trustee.
