Mr. Jerry Pickens awarded Outstanding Veteran Volunteer

Mr. Jerry Pickens awarded Outstanding Veteran Volunteer

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution gives an “Outstanding Veteran Volunteer Award” to a veteran in recognition of outstanding achievement in personal, professional, and family life. The applicant must prove significant contributions of leadership, patriotism, and increased public awareness of veterans. The Jonathan Hardin Chapter DAR awarded Mr. Jerry Pickens this honor at our November 10, 2021 meeting. At the annual Texas State DAR Conference, held in Houston on March 19, 2022, Mr. Pickens received the “Outstanding Veteran Volunteer Award” from the Texas State Society DAR. Presenting the award to Mr. Pickens was TXDAR State Regent Marcy Carter-Lovick along with TXDAR Service for Veterans Chair Candy Martin. In attendance at the National Defense Banquet recognizing Jerry’s award were his daughters, Julie Pickens Smith and friend Daniel Averitt, Susan Pickens Steen and husband Steven, granddaughter Madison Jones and husband Cooper, Jonathan Harding Chapter Regent, Nancy McSwane, and other chapter members.

Eutaw Cemetery needs donations

Well, folks, it is that time of year again and with the gas prices being so high we are asking that you please donate to the Eutaw Cemetery fund at Farmers State Bank, Kosse, or to Robert O’Neal, 477 LCR 664, Kosse, Tx 76653. As most of you know this cemetery operates on donations only. For the last few years, we have mowed it without being paid as the funds are so low as most of the people that use to donate have passed away but with everything being so expensive now we will have to have some compensation to help pay for the gas. We want the people that have made donations to know how much it is appreciated.
