The Cynthia Ann Garden Club had its Christmas social on Thursday, December 15, at the Groesbeck Woman’s Club at 12 noon. The Social Committee, Joan McEntyre and Paige Longoria presented us with a Nutcracker Theme. As we approached the door, we were greeted by a beautiful poinsettia wreath and two 3 ft tall Nutcrackers. Upon entering, we noticed the room was decorated with an abundance of nutcrackers and live poinsettia plants. The tables were positioned two by two in the center of the room and covered by white linen tablecloths. In the center of each duo of tables was a silver, red and green garland and in the center of that was a nutcracker with pewter mugs filled with red and white candy canes on either side. Each place setting consisted of a poinsettia plate and napkin, and silver utensils. Each club member brought a gift for our exchange which would follow our meal, and a dessert or salad to go with the meat trays and drinks the social committee had supplied. The buffet was covered by a linen cloth and held the desserts. The main table, covered in a red cloth and topped with a cutwork white linen tablecloth with embroidered holly vines, leaves and berries, held the main portion of the meal. In the center of this table was a metal sculpture of three large white snowflakes, and on either side were two metal nutcrackers. After the invocation, we enjoyed the delicious meal and went to the gift exchange. Everyone had such a fabulous and festive time of Christmas celebration.

The Groesbeck Study Club had its Christmas Party at the Mary Helen Nance Community Center in Thornton on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 6 p.m. The social committee, Beth Westhoff, Peggy Beck, Wanda Bush, Lea Hardison, Julia Morton and Alisha Baize with assistance from Kay Alston presented us with a Christmas Elegance themed evening. The large circular tables placed in the center of the room were covered in black tablecloths and in the center of each table were black metal hurricane lamps with electric white candles inside glowing and around these lamps were silver beads. The place settings consisted of red and burgundy and silver and black chargers with a white silver rimmed plate and silver utensils wrapped up in a white napkin with a silver ribbon around each were placed in the middle of the plates with an extra napkin beside each place setting. As you walked into the building, a long table covered in a black cloth had our desserts on one end and our treasurer sitting at the other end. The desserts were 2 large Italian Cream cakes and 2 Tres Leches cakes which were provided by the social committee. Along another wall were two or three long tables covered by black cloths and atop them was our main course; beef and chicken fajitas, rice and refried beans, guacamole, and chips which Los Pepes Restaurant from Groesbeck catered. At the far end of these tables was sweet and unsweet tea and water which was provided by the social committee. After the invocation, which was given by June Wietzikoski, we proceeded in buffet fashion to get our food and drinks and then to be seated. The food was delicious, and we had a wonderful time visiting as we ate. Stacy Duffield serenaded us after the meal with Christmas songs and half-way through the program she went around the room asking a few what Christmas means to us and she also gave us a short inspirational talk about the reason for the season…Jesus. She sang Let It Snow, Santa Claus is Coming To Town, a new Christmas song, There’s a New Kid in Town…Jesus, Here in Bethlehem, O Holy Night and Go Tell it on the Mountain. We were all reminded that Jesus “Is” The Reason For The Season.
