Groesbeck is going to be in for a real treat on this Wednesday afternoon, June 26, when KWTX Channel 10 weathermen, Rusty Garrett and Brady Taylor visit Groesbeck. Hopefully, many Journal readers will receive and take a look at this Journal early in the day.  The Channel 10 group will be in Groesbeck for the Wednesday 5 p.m. newscast and also the 6 p.m. newscast.

The visit to Groesbeck is one of six stops in six central Texas county seats. The tour is officially to honor the 30-year career of retiring Chief Forecaster Rusty Garrett and to welcome long-time morning Meteorologist Brady Taylor to the evening's newscasts as your Breaking News and Weather Authority’s Chief.

In May Garrett announced he would step down, after a three-decade career protecting the lives of Central and educating thousands on severe weather safety through the Project Tornado Program.

“I’m incredibly grateful and humbled to have been part of so many families’ lives and  I’m 110% confident that my friend Brady Taylor will continue our legacy as the most trusted station for weather in the decades to come,” said retiring Chief Forecaster Rusty Garrett.

“To celebrate summer and new seasons in life for Rusty and Brady, we are inviting the community to six ‘Change in the Weather’ events throughout Central Texas where our viewers will have an opportunity to meet both Rusty and Brady, cool-off with free Blue Bell Ice Cream, win great prizes and enjoy some unexpected surprises,” said KWTX Vice President and General Manager  John Young.

“Thanks to the generous community partners we’ll provide opportunities for the community to sign up to win free family four-packs of tickets to Six Flags, courtesy of Amos Electric, and visit the Texas Farm Bureau photo booth for pictures with Rusty,” said Young.

Garrett and Taylor will give the weather on the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts at each of the six stops.

The tour began on June 20 at the Milam Country Courthouse in Cameron. Other stops have included or will include the following, June 21, Lampasas County Courthouse, Lampasas; June 24, Falls County Courthouse, Marlin; June 25, Coryell County Courthouse, Gatesville; June 26,  Limestone County Courthouse, Groesbeck; and June 27, Bell County Historic Courthouse, Belton.

Activities at the six stops will include free children’s activities, water tattoos, and giveaway sign-up; live weather forecasts, Gordon Collier Band, pictures with the KWTX Weather Authority Team, Community Presentation, and Free Blue Bell Ice Cream and the announcing of giveaway winners.

Garrett also stated, “I’m truly blessed to be invited into the homes of thousands of Central Texans who place their trust in the KWTX weather team to keep their families safe, and I’m humbled to have the opportunity to personally shake their hands and thank them for this honor at these community events.

The Change in the Weather Tour is made possible through these generous sponsors: Amos Electric, Blue Bell Ice Cream, Crestview RV, and the Texas Farm Bureau.
