Diamondback TX to play live on area radio station Thursday

All their shows in April have been cancelled, but fans can still hear the music of Diamondback TX this week.

The group will be featured on “Live After 5” at 8 p.m. Thursday on radio station KNES, 99.1, in Fairfield. In addition to the audio on the radio, the show can be seen live by video on the KNES website.

Scott Thornton, bass player and a founding member of Diamondback TX in the late 1980s, said the band won’t actually be playing at the studio. But they will be live.

“We’re actually going to do it at an undisclosed location in Mexia that has WiFi,” Thornton said. “You can watch it anywhere if you get it through their Facebook. In order to use the correct equipment, we have to have WiFi.”

Thornton and guitar player/singer Willie Herring will team up to play a combination of cover songs and Diamondback TX originals.

Diamondback TX, which is based in Limestone County, is usually booked every weekend and sometimes during the week. But with all bars, clubs and restaurants being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they haven’t done a show since a private party nearly three weeks ago. All their April shows have been cancelled.

“Right now, every gig we had in April has been cancelled,” Thornton said. “We’ve got some really cool gigs coming up in May. I hope they don’t cancel all that stuff.”

As for Thursday, Thornton is just happy to get a chance to play.

“We haven’t done a gig,” he said. “We did a party that Friday night at a guy’s house before they locked everything down. That was the last one.”

On the bright side, Thornton said, with time on his hands his lawn is mowed and looking good and his garden has been cleared of weeds.

The show Thursday is scheduled for two hours, 8 to 10 p.m.
