Get some Holiday Cheer Here

With the holidays sneaking up on us like the Grinch on a Christmas tree, there will be tons of holiday-themed events you and your family can attend locally

Saturday, Dec. 9

Lakeside Christmas at Fort Parker State Park from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Free entry upon donation of a new unwrapped toy. Opportunities to play games, make Christmas ornaments, take advantage of a photo spot by the fire truck, experience Dutch oven cooking with Uncle Mike’s Outdoor Kitchen, and try some sweet treats. You can pick up an entrance permit at park HQ or bring a toy donation and enter for free. The event will take place at the Group Barracks Dining Hall which is located at the end of the road that passes in front of the park residence.

Monday, Dec. 11

The High School Christmas Concert and fundraising dinner will be held at Eng Washington Intermediate School. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. They will be serving chicken spaghetti or regular spaghetti, salad, green beans, bread, and dessert. Tickets are $10. The free concert begins at 7 p.m. They will also be selling tickets for the stretch auction to benefit the Groesbeck Band.

*** Santa is coming to the Groesbeck Public Library! Bring the kids in their pajamas for an extra special Polar Express storytime. It will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will include Christmas crafts and cookies. Kids will take a picture with Santa for their crafting but parents are welcome to take more pictures. Please RSVP through the link on the event page on Facebook.

Wednesday, Dec. 13

Santa is coming to Wortham! Join the Wortham Fire Department for Christmas on the Bricks in downtown Wortham. The event will include a chili supper and hot chocolate and treats. It begins at 6 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 14

Friday, Dec. 15

Santa will be at the Kosse Community Center at 6: 30 p. m. Lots of fun and games and a chance for the kids to meet Santa! Volunteers will be putting together 75 goodie bags with small toys, snacks, candy, drinks, etc.

Santa will be at Farmer’s State Bank for photos between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Enjoy refreshments while you wait for your picture to print.

*** The Mexia Garden Club will hold its annual Outdoor Christmas Lighting Contest. The categories will be both traditional and creative. Judgment will occur from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Contact Patty Manley at 361-227-0698 to suggest homes for consideration.

Saturday, Dec. 16

Dough-Nut Steal Christmas Mr. Grinch. Photos with the Grinch from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Breakfast and Lunch options $10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. LARAS House Pet Adoptions, Brazos River Authority, Local Fire Departments, Game Wardens, and Vendors Galore at the Old Union Civic Center, 3813 FM 3371.

Sunday, Dec. 17

First Baptist Church of Donie welcomes Don Thornton in a concert of Christmas music. It will begin at 11 a.m.

*** The Coolidge First Methodist Youth Group presents Christmas in Cricket County, a oneact Christmas comedy by Eddie McPherson and directed by Angie Allcorn. First Methodist Church, 106 N. 3rd St., Coolidge. It will begin at 6 p.m.
