Homecoming 2018 only one week away

Groesbeck Homecoming 2019 is only one week away with the homecoming dates being Friday and Saturday, September 14-15. The general sponsor of homecoming is the Groesbeck Ex-Students Association.

Honor classes are those classes ending in “3” and “8”. The Groesbeck High School Class of 1968 and the Washington High School Class of 1968 will be special honor classes and will receive their 50 year diplomas following the HC barbecue on HC Saturday.

The Lady Goat Basketball team of 1968 will be this year’s honored. The team won the 1996 State Championship in Class 3A.

Activities on Friday, September 14, will include an open house at the Groesbeck Journal from 2 p.m. to 4 p. m.

Friday activities will include the Groesbeck Masonic Lodge Stew Supper at Groesbeck High School from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Lodge’s scholarship fund.

Pre-game ceremonies at Groesbeck Stadium will begin at 7 p.m. and will include the presentation of Mr. and Mrs. Homecoming, the Groesbeck Ex-Students Homecoming Queen, presentation of the GHS and WHS Classes of 1968, and the 1996 Lady Goat State Champion Basketball Team. The GHS Band will present its halftime show during the pre-game activities.

Please Note: The GHS and WHS Classes of 1968 and the Lady Goat Basketball Team of 1996 along with other honorees will be recognized on the field in pre-game activities. Time is very limited. All involved in pre-game activities should be available to go on the field at the north entrance to the field by 6:50 p.m.

The homecoming football game will send the Groesbeck Goats against the Marlin Bulldogs with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The GHS student homecoming queen and nominees will be presented at halftime.

Homecoming Saturday activities are list below:

Blackshear-Washington Homecoming breakfast, 6:30 to 9 a.m. at Groesbeck Middle School. Proceeds will benefit the Ex-Students Scholarship Fund.

Homecoming parade will be at 10:30 a.m. in downtown Groesbeck. Parade will lineup on West Trinity Street shortly after 9 a.m. Theme is “Outstanding Goats”. Call Lisa Stewart at 254-292-3155 to place an entry in the parade. Any parade entered after Friday, September 7, will be placed at the end of the parade.

Homecoming BBQ at Groesbeck Convention Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Groesbeck Convention Center. Tickets are $8.00 if purchased in advance or $10 at the door. Tickets are available at Groesbeck Journal, Farmers State Bank in Groesbeck and Kosse, and other places of business.

Many class reunions will be held during the homecoming weekend especially on Saturday afternoon and night.

The Groesbeck Ex-Students Association reminds all exstudents that ex-student dues are $10 per person per year. Memorial donations to the scholarship fund in memory of classmate, schoolmate or loved one are also accepted. The Association will notify the bereaved family of the donation. Dues, memorial donations, and other donations may be mailed to the Groesbeck Ex-Students Association, P. O. Box 657, Groesbeck, Texas 76642. Dues may also be mailed at various homecoming events. The Association gives five $1,000 scholarship to five GHS graduates each year. See you at HC 2018!
