Jellystone Park Camp-Resort Coming to Groesbeck

Work is underway on a new Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort near Groesbeck, with a spring 2022 opening planned.

Famous for providing families with pools, water slides, splash grounds, jumping pillows, wagon rides, foam parties and interactions with Yogi Bear costumed characters, Jellystone Park has 75 locations in the U.S. and Canada. Guests choose from a variety of camping and glamping accommodations.

The 80-acre camp-resort is being built by Houston developer Randy Sims, who frequently visited the area as a child. “My family’s roots there go back to the Texas Revolution. In fact, my dad grew up near Lost Prairie,” Sims said. “I always wanted to do something to contribute to the community and the economy.”

He first thought about bringing Jellystone Park to the area three years ago.

“I’ve got young kids, and we had been going to the Waller Jellystone Park for years,” he said. “One morning I was sitting on the porch of the cabin, watching the staff get ready for the day, and I thought, ‘We could do this,’ so I started researching the idea.”

The Groesbeck campground will initially feature a sevenacre lake with white sand beach and Wibit obstacle course, pool, 150 RV sites, nine cabins, two Conestoga wagons, a pavilion for activities, camp store, and dog park. Sims is investing more than $8 million in the first phase of the project.

“This new Jellystone Park stands to be a trajectorychanging addition to the entire region, as it will have a very noticeable impact on the local economy,” said TK Presley, executive director of the Groesbeck Economic Development Corp. “The park itself will provide a different type of job opportunity for teens and young adults, and it will attract travelers who will bring fresh dollars to the local economy.”

Sims said the park will be open all year and will create 45 full-time jobs. “Being on the edge of Texas Hill Country and within a few hours of major cities will make the Groesbeck Jellystone Park a major destination,” he added.

The camp resort is located at 2600 FM 2489. Reservations will open by the end of the year.
