Pancake Breakfast, Pep rally to kickoff the GHS varsity football season

By Tom Hawkins, Editor Emeritus

The Groesbeck Goat varsity football season will be kicked on Friday, August 31, with a home game against the Rice High School Bulldogs at Groesbeck Stadium with the kickoff  being at 7:30 p.m.

However, the Goat football team and high school student body will be treated to a pancake breakfast  and downtown pep rally on the morning of Friday, August 31.

The breakfast is being sponsored by the Groesbeck First United Methodist Church. This activity has been held for several years.

The pancake breakfast will be served from the Methodist Activity Center (MAC Building) which is located on West Navasota Street in downtown Groesbeck. The 200 block of West Navasota Street will be roped off for the Pancake Breakfast  and the Pep Rally.

Tables will be set up in the alley next to the MAC Building on which the students may eat.

The Pancake Breakfast will start at approximately 7:30 a.m. which will be followed by a brief devotional and prayer by Raely Sherrod, youth director of the church.

Following the breakfast and devotional, a lively pep rally will be held to kickoff the season. The pep rally is expected to include activities by the GHS cheerleaders, music by the GHS band, a performance by the Color Guard, and, perhaps, remarks by the GHS coaches and players and other school personnel.

The breakfast is just for the students of GHS. However, all backers of the Groesbeck Goats are very cordially invited and encouraged to attend the pep rally and help spur the Goats to victory in the team’s season opener against the Rice Bulldogs.
