Two Texas contests for student scholarships

Don’t mess with Texas will hold two contests to award prizes and scholarships to Texas students that demonstrate efforts to raise awareness about litter prevention.“We are looking forward to rewarding students for their creativity and hard work in developing projects that keep their communities and Texas clean,” said Becky Ozuna, program administrator for the campaign.Keep Texas Beautiful partners to bring the “2020 Don’t mess with Texas Scholarship Contest and K-12 School Art Contest. Both contests are currently accepting applications and submissions.To submit to the scholarship contest or art contest, visit dontmesswithtexas.org. Applications must be received via online submission by 5 p.m. March 31. Submissions for the art contest must be sent through the U.S. mail and postmarked on or before April 24. Buc-ee’s, iHeart Media and the Astros Foundation are also sponsoring the funds this year.The scholarship contest is open to any Texas high school senior currently attending public, private or home school. Students applying must plan to attend an accredited college or university in the coming year. In the art contest, Texas students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to submit original artwork for the opportunity to be featured next year’s Don’t mess with Texas calendar. The artwork should promote the message or litter prevention, with the goal to encourage and inspire Texas residents to become active in combatting human contribution to environmental waste. The top 14 winning designs will be featured in the calendar. Each winner will receive a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 tablet and a gift basket from Buc-ee’s. Teachers representing the students who produce the top 14 designs will each win a $100 gift card from H-E-B/Central Market.Don’t mess with Texas has been educating Texans about litter prevention since 1986. The program includes a grassroots partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful, annual “Trash-Off” community outreach events and the Adopt-a-Highway volunteer program. Republican women to meet in Limestone, hear CIA agent

Limestone County Republican Women Limestone County Republican Women held its’ monthly meeting Tuesday evening, Feb. 11, at the Limestone County Courthouse in the County Courtroom with approximately 50 members, elected officials, candidates and guests present. Our guest speaker for the evening was Zenia Warren, vice president of membership for the Texas Federation of Republican Women. She shared with us the importance of our recently organized club and the responsibility and power we have in the upcoming election cycle. Warren was accompanied by Sue De Villez, TFRW Director of Senate District 5 and Co-Chair of Americanism for TFRW. De Villez echoed Warren’s remarks on patriotism and adherence to our American values.
