Summer Track team heads to State meet
Summer Games 2017 is just a couple of weeks away in McAllen and all the hard work put in by the Groesbeck Summer Track team has paid off, as eight athletes advanced this past weekend at the Region V regional track meet held in Waco, to the state meet that will be held on July 28.
Ke’Naijah Smith, C.J. Henderson, Ombry Jones, Detrick Smith, Aiden Ray, Mahoganie Washington, Ma’Quay Smith and Trent Platt will represent GST in McAllen on the 28th.
Ma'Quay Smith placed third overall out of 12 athletes in the long jump, with a distance of 16-02.00.
Washington finished fifth overall out of 34 runners in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 14.11 and fourth out of 40 runners in the 200-meter dash with her time of 29.30.
Ray placed first out of 30 runners in the 50-meter dash with a time of 9.03 and first out of 33 runners in the 100-meter dash with a time of 17.53.
Ke'Naijah Smith finished second out of 24 runners in the 50-meter dash, finishing with a time of 8.72. She also placed fourth out of 28 runners in the 100-meter dash with a time of 17.49.
Trent Platt took the fourth spot out of the field of 25 runners in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:14.16.
Jones, Platt, Detrick Smith and Henderson finished third out of six teams in the 4x100 meter relay. The team finished with a time of 59.47.
