Thornton Senior Citizens News

By Jane Carpenter, Special to the Journal

The Thornton Senior Citizens met at Central Baptist Church Thursday, August 10th for their weekly lunch. Thanks to Groesbeck site for preparing and sending our meals each week. This week it was King Ranch Casserole, Spanish rice, tossed green salad, tortilla chips, and cake. We also appreciated the extras that were brought by Sue Wood, Ann Carr and Janice Bilbrey which added more flavor to our meal.

Those joining in today were Wilma Lee, Sue Gambini, Alma McCurry and Helen Harvey from Oletha, Linda Watson, Ann Brown, Linda Taylor, Bobbie Reynolds, Ernestine Audd, Sandra Spivey and her grandson, C.J.; Raye Spivey, Fonetta Simmons, Janice Bilbrey site manager,

Jane Carpenter and Sue Wood and Ann Carr, both volunteers at Limestone Medical Center.

Several were out this week, Wayne Sharp doctors appt.;  Elizabeth Neason and family on short vacation in Galveston; Roger Watson, working; and Pat Jones, who knows that he's up to, maybe chasing a cow or just riding his horse for pleasure. We miss all of you when you're not here.

Thursday, the 17th, our sweet LeAnn from Limestone Medical Center will be here to bring a program and discuss Prescription Drugs with us. Looking forward to her words of wisdom.

Menu this week will be: 1/2 baked potato, 3 oz. BBQ, onion and cheese; macaroni salad and red applesauce. Also heard a certain sweet lady, Alma Stewart, talking about maybe bringing an apricot cake as well.  She does make some really good cakes.

Thanks again to Sue and Ann for calling our Bingo Games. Winners this week were Alma Stewart, Bobbie Reynolds, Linda Taylor and Ann Brown.

See you Thursday, August 17th.

Raye Spivey and Jane Carpenter attended the County Board Meeting of the Senior Citizens in Groesbeck late in the afternoon.  After the meeting the went by the LTC Nursing Home to visit with Wilmer Spivey who is also longtime member of the Thornton Senior Citizens and is on the board. Wilmer looks great and says he's doing great but also his words were "I'M COMING HOME".  Great outlook, Wilmer.  Maybe we can get into another of those 42 games that he loves to play so well.
