Goats look impressive in first football scrimmage against Waco Connally
The Waco Connally Cadets came into town Friday to scrimmage the Goats to kick off the 2017 preseason. Connally's first possession produced very little yards in their running game. This was disrupted by a very physical Groesbeck defense who came out punishing anyone attempting to go up the middle.
The Groesbeck Goat defense controlled the line of scrimmage.
The Cadets tried to run the ball and were immediately shut down.
Connally only obtained two first downs in their first set of plays.
Groesbeck's offense put themselves deep in Connally's red zone.
On the 5-yard line, Groesbeck was stopped by the Cadets, but many pass interference calls kept Groesbeck's hope for a touchdown alive. Tyrique Carter caught a pass from quarterback Ty Hale on the 15th play of the drive for a touchdown.
Connally responded with a game-tying score.
The Cadets were later knocking on Groesbeck's door inside the 10-yard line but could not score. Groesbeck's final offensive series were all out air assaults.
With time ticking away, the Goats were on the Cadet's 21-yard line.
