Small town, Big Love

Brooklyn Wilson named 2017 GHS Homecoming Queen

People often question small town living, but the true beauty in that lifestyle was shown last Friday night as Brooklyn Nicole Wilson was named the 2017 Groesbeck Homecoming Queen.  Wilson is currently fighting the biggest battle of her life as she has end stage liver disease but that did not stop her, her family, her school and the great City of Groesbeck from celebrating this great moment in her honor.

As Brooklyn was escorted Friday night to the 50 yard line by her father, Scott Wilson, she was greeted by Athletic Director, Coach Hale and the Goat football team. After a hug to the neck of one of his team’s biggest fans; Coach Hale, his coaches and his players lined each side of the ramp from the Goat field house to the track, clapping and cheering as Brooklyn’s parents wheeled her down to the track.

The GHS administration and high school principal, Keri Allen, did everything they could to make the accessibility just right for Brooklyn to be on that field when her name was called.

“When she was nominated we tried backing out and letting some other deserving girl have the spot, we were afraid it was just too much... to fight with the hospitals and the not knowing if she could even be present for the events but the student body and administration wouldn’t take no for an answer.”  Stated Scott Wilson. Brooklyn was nominated as a Homecoming Sweetheart.

So the Wilson family made Homecoming night happen for Brooklyn.

In our small town, we stand together and love big. The students of Groesbeck High showed their love by nominating and crowning Wilson as their Queen and the love was felt throughout the stadium.

Friday night, the Groesbeck Goats #1 fan, Brooklyn Wilson, was named Homecoming Queen and that’s truly an amazing thing. As her name was called as the winner, the crowd erupted in cheer, tears and triumph.
