Who is Guiding Your Future?
My friend, Zane Christian, penned an amazing message on his Facebook page. Zane is a brother in Christ, who worships at a congregation in Waco. He is also my retirement investment manager. It's awesome to have such a spiritually minded man guiding my retirement future. He wrote:
“I was putting the finishing touches on my lesson for class tomorrow and had a thought occur to me. In a lesson I heard a few weeks ago I heard a preacher refer to the Bible as ‘the most dangerous weapon on earth.’ I've pondered this thought for a while and tonight I wrote on the inside cover of my Bible: ‘In your hands you hold the most powerful weapon and brightest light known to man. Wield it wisely and carefully and you will save many. Use it foolishly or sparingly and you will lose your own soul.’
The Bible is truly the greatest book ever written as it tells of God's love, plan of redemption, and instructions for living to his people. As John 1 puts it "in Him (here referring to Christ as the Word) was life and that life was the light of all men". Too many are lost and wandering in the darkness without a light.
At the same time the Bible is "sharper than any two-edged sword" (Hebrews 4:12). Too many are wildly waving this sword around and are a danger not only to others but to themselves as well. I pray that God's people will grow to shine the light and wield the sword as God intended because His Word is truly the most powerful weapon and brightest light known to man.”
I shared his post for two reasons: First, his description of God’s word is right on point. Those who love and study the Bible hold within their hands an awesome weapon. It’s a mighty sword with the power to change lives, to conquer hearts and to save men’s souls. Paul wrote: The gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Rom. 1:16).
As I mentioned, Zane oversees my retirement investments. He is literally in charge of my family’s future, I’m confident in that future, because I have such a godly man guiding it. Which leads to my second reason for sharing Zane’s message: Are you confident about those who are influencing your eternal future? What kind of men advise you on your spiritual decisions.
Choose wisely which men guide your spiritual choices. More than just money is at stake. Your soul’s eternal future hangs in the balance. Believers who are influenced by men who do not know God’s word; or worse yet, teach false doctrine, may lose their souls (2nd Pet. 2:1-2, 1st Tim. 4:1-2). In the end, we are responsible for the eternal investments of our own souls. So, search God’s word (Act 17:11). Make certain you are in the faith (2nd Cor. 13:5).
