Count Your Blessings!
Some folks are just not good at math. I loved math when I was in school. While studying math in senior high, I used a slide rule device. The younger among us may have never heard of a slide rule. However, whether we used slide rules or calculators or laptops, we lost much of our hard-learned math skills soon after graduation. Quadratic equations and theorems of geometry are soon forgotten once we no longer faced math tests. This time of year is a good time to renew our love for math skills. Especially in spiritual matters. So let’s do some “accounting” here:
Count your blessings instead of your crosses; Count your gains instead of your losses. Count your joys instead of your woes; Count your friends instead of your foes. Count your smiles instead of your tears; Count your courage instead of your fears. Count your health instead of your wealth; Love your neighbor as much as yourself.
Deut. 28:1-6 Promised the obedient may account themselves Blessed: "If you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings shall come upon you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and of your cattle…Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and when you go out.”
God promised if people obey His commands… He will bless them. He said He would bless their lives…their souls… their families…their jobs. He said He would bless their cities and their homes. God promised if we obey Him by being baptized into Christ (Rom. 6:3-5) we will be freed from our sins (Rom. 6:16-18). If we obey God we Worship Him every day, especially every Sunday (Heb. 10:25). It means we obey His moral values and keep ourselves pure (1st Tim. 1:5, 5:22).
Here is some life changing “accounting” …God has been good to you and me. He has blessed us. I am Thankful for my blessings and add them everyone up to a grand total…. My home…My family… My good looks. For My Christian Friends… For God Saving my soul and promising me Heaven. That my friends, is excellent math that we must never forget how to do.
Those He blesses should gratefully say so. Psalm 107:2 declares, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble.” So, my friend, if God has been good to you find someone to tell. The math demands it. May God bless your future in 2018 as He has thus far. Those who love God and responded to His call will find “All things will work together for their good” (Rom. 8:28).
