Groesbeck improves play in Connally game
Though the final result was still a loss, no. 3 in the young season, the Groesbeck Lady Goats played up to the level of the more-talented Connally Lady Cadets in losing at home on Tuesday, November 21 than they showed in the home loss the day before to Rogers. The final score was 64-38 Connally, a vast improvement in play over 18 hours earlier when Rogers won 54-19.
For one thing, Coach Andre Daversa’s Lady Goat squad had a whole lot more fight in them and hustled more for the ball, taking a lot of falls and probably bumps and bruises they would feel over the Thanksgiving holidays. They played at an aggressive level not seen the day before. But they needed to as Connally had more athletes in their uniforms than the Lady Eagles. The score could have been a lot worse save for their hustle and the Cadets’ poor shooting at the free throw line.
The first quarter ended with Connally leading 12-7. The second quarter was Groesbeck’s worst showing as the Cadets surged ahead to a halftime lead of 32-9.
The Lady Goats nearly played Connally even in the third quarter just getting outscored 18-13.Making points for Groesbeck during the third were Kolbi Brown with two points, Kyla Evans with four points, Kiera Anglin with two points, Abby Johnson with one point, Kennedy Cox with two points and Alexis Burns with two points. Connally had the lead 50-22.
