First-ever Corsicana Bowl this weekend
The first-ever Corsicana Bowl will be held this Saturday, Dec. 2, with kickoff slated for noon, featuring NCAA Division II teams Central Oklahoma Bronchos (7-4) of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the Tarleton State University Texans (6-5).
The Bronchos - under head coach Nick Bobeck - started the season 2-4, but have won their last five games, including a 62-21 win over Northeastern State on Nov. 11.
Bobeck was the offensive coordinator for the Navarro College Bulldogs in 2007 and took over as the head coach in 2008, leading the team to a 10-1 record in his first season. In 2009, the Bulldogs finished 11-1 and ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA Polls.
In 2010, Bobeck led Navarro to their second National Championship with a record of 11-1. The Bulldogs finished 10-1 and ranked fourth in the polls his last season (2011) at Navarro, taking the head coaching job with Bronchos in early 2012.
Texan head coach Todd Whitten returned to TSU in 2016, taking the team from a 3-7 finish in 2015 to contenders for the LSC championship in 2016. Whitten previously coached at the school in 1996, then returned from 2000-04 and again last season. Whitten was head coach for NCAA Div. I Sam Houston State for five seasons and has an overall coaching record of 75-57, as well as being the second winningest coach at TSU with a mark of 50-29.
The Texans closed out the regular season with losses to No. 4 ranked Midwestern State, 45-42, and to No. 8 ranked Texas A&M-Commerce, 33-21.
