Christmas Parade Route/Tree Lighting
Sunday, December 17, 2017, at 6:00 p.m., the Christmas Parade will take place in downtown Groesbeck, organized by Groesbeck resident Lisa Stewart and the City of Groesbeck. The parade route will travel west on Navasota from Railroad Street, cross SH 14 and turn left on Waco Street in front of City Hall. The route will then turn left onto State Street, crossover SH 14 again and then end near Railroad Street in the area of the Post Office and Courthouse. This route will alleviate some of the congestion downtown since it will provide multiple places from which to view the parade. Those wishing to visit with Santa Claus and enjoy refreshments are invited to Hawkins Park following the conclusion of the parade. Additionally, a Christmas tree has been donated to the City of Groesbeck by Larry Smith and will be lit at the conclusion of the parade in Hawkins Park. This is a new tradition but one we hope to continue for years to come. If you have questions please contact Lisa Stewart at 254.292.3155. Remember, the success of these small town events depend on support and participation from the community. Please be sure to contact Lisa and join in the holiday festivities!
The Goats Pen
In this edition of the Groesbeck Journal, we are excited to include a copy of Groesbeck High Schools’ newspaper “The Goats Pen,” which was created entirely by students, with some assistance in page design and layout from Journalism teacher Shannon Casto. We at the Journal sold ads for the 12 page tab and printed The Goats Pen to share with you, the readers. Half of the copies of The Goats Pen that we printed will be donated to the school and distributed to students.
Christmas is not far away, and the final edition of the Groesbeck Journal for 2017 will come out Thursday, December 28. Because Christmas falls on a Monday earlier that week, we will be moving our deadline for ads and submitted content back to Friday, December 22. You may send stories and ads through the weekend if you like (email is firstname.lastname@example.org), but anything submitted on or after Christmas Day, Monday, December 25 will not be included in the December 28th paper, but held for the next edition should it remain relevant. Feel free to call us at the office between 9am and 5pm weekdays if you have further questions!
