Lady Goats Basketball Summary
The Groesbeck Lady Goats picked up their first win of the season, closing out the Thorndale Holiday Basketball Tournament with a 43-38 victory over the Hearne Lady Eagles. Kennedy Cox and Abagail Johnson led the Lady Goat charge with both players scoring in double figures. Cox finished with a game-high 15, while Johnson pumped in 14. Kiera Anglin contributed to the win with seven points, Alexis Burns dropped in five and Kayla Menzel scored two-points.
Groesbeck led 11-8 after the first period, but Hearne came back to even things up at the half with the score tied at 22-22.
The Lady Goats regained the lead by the end of the third, outscoring the Lady Eagles 12-8, to make it a 34-30 ball game. Groesbeck held on in the fourth and after the dust cleared, found themselves with the five-point win.
Groesbeck opened the tournament against San Marcos Home School, falling to the Lady Panthers, 60-26. Cox was the leading scorer for the Lady Goats with nine, followed by Anglin with six, Johnson hit five, Marlie Barber and Kennedy Brown had two each and both Menzel and Brianna Dobson added a free throw apiece.
In game two against Caldwell, Groesbeck stayed close by the end of the first period, trailing only by three, 13-10, but Caldwell began to pull away, leading at the half, 27-16, then moved out to 38-17 advantage before closing out with a 21-point win.
