By Alexandra Cannon, Staff Reporter

A city-wide power outage around 9: 15 am on the morning of Tuesday, January 16 added to the stress of freezing temperatures. The Groesbeck Police Department sent out a Nixle alert at 9:19 am, advising caution when approaching intersections as the lights were out due to the power outage. Another alert was sent out at 9:29 am, announcing that restoration was anticipated at approximately 10:30 am, and as promise city-wide electricity was restored at about 10:37 am. At 11:53 am, another Nixle alert went out in which a Natural Gas Outage was explained. Atmos Energy informed Groesbeck PD that the recent electrical outage in Groesbeck resulted in some issues for their natural gas system. Paired with the dropping pressure in the system, Atmos shut down all natural gas services for the City of Groesbeck in order to restore the system. The final Nixle alert sent out at 1:40 pm explained that Atmos Energy would be sending up to 100 service technicians to each business or residence to turn off the gas supply, involving approximately 800 customers. Once all gas meters are off, the system will be purged and restoration can begin, at which point the technicians would return to restore service to each meter in Groesbeck. The advisory alert ended by saying updates will follows as they are received.
