Goats back in first place, Lady Goats challenge McGregor
The Groesbeck Goats once again made the fourth quarter a nail-biting experience but came back from giving away a 15-point halftime lead and knocked the visiting McGregor Bulldogs out of sole possession of first place in District 19-3A with a thrilling 51-43 win in the Groesbeck Gym, Friday, Jan. 26. The Goats climbed into a three-way tie for first place with McGregor and Whitney as they moved to a 6-3 district mark and a 14-13 season record. Groesbeck played West on the road Tuesday, Jan. 30.
Ameer Lee led the way in the first two quarters as he poured in 15 points. He was seven of 10 shooting two pointers for a 70% rate during this period. He scored on four of six free throws for the entire game to be 67% from the charity stripe. His 18 points led the Goat charge. The rest of the Goats also shot well as the team hit 50% from the field for the game. Lee was the only Goat shooting free throws so his 67% rate was the team rate. He also had four steals to lead the Goats in that critical stat.
Nick Mosley was the only other Goat scoring in double figures as he made six of nine baskets for a 67% night with 12 points. He dominated on the boards with four offensive and 15 defensive rebounds. Groesbeck had 33 caroms for the entire team. Ty Hale made both his two point shots for four points. Titus Townes scored six points.
