How do you handle the storms of life? The Apostle Paul, in Acts, chapter 27, tells about a storm in his life (Read Acts 27). To keep the boat from running aground, the sailors cast out four anchors (27:27-29) These four anchors held the ship safe through the night. Why four anchors? Is that all the anchors they had on board? Or is it that since the wind can come from any point on the compass one must prepare for the unexpected.
What about other storms in life? Storms such as sickness, death, loss of job, family break-up, moving, etc.! How can one prepare for these storms? There is an old hymn that suggests a remedy. It says, “In times like these, you have an anchor. Be very sure your anchor holds and grips the solid rock. This rock is Jesus, the only one”. When our faith is in Jesus, there are, at least, four eternal truths to which we can anchor our lives. These truths are, Jesus saved us; God’s Holy Spirit is in us; God’s promises are to us; and God’s power is with us.
Often, we try to do everything ourselves. Let’s anchor ourselves to the Lord Jesus and let the winds we cannot control blow out the storms of life with him.
Precious Lord, hold our hand! Amen!
