Tom’s Topics

By Tom Hawkins

On behalf of the family of my brother-in-law, Jack Waylon Stone, appreciation is deeply expressed for the many acts of kindness, love and concern during his illness and death.

Jack loved his many friends and family members. He was a very good friend to many people.

Growing up on a farm in the Big Hill area of Limestone County, Jack could vividly tell stories of what it was like to grow up in rural Limestone County during the late 1930’s, the 1940’s, and the 1950’s.

When I sold the Journal in 2014 and retired, the new owners asked me to continue to write a weekly column and to select a name for the column. I asked Martha and Jack for suggestions for a name for the column. Jack suggested “Tom’s Topics” and that title is still with us today.

Again, Martha and family express appreciation for everyone’s acts of kindness at this time. May God bless and keep each of you.

The Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce had two big events at the Groesbeck Convention Center last week.

At the Chamber’s regular monthly meeting at noon, a large crowd was present to hear Captain Lee Cox of the Limestone County Sheriff’s office present a timely program on “Active Shooter.”

On Thursday night the Chamber presented a candidate forum featuring candidates for Limestone County offices. A large crowd was present with the forum also be held at the convention center.

Please see separate articles on these two events elsewhere in this week’s Journal.

By the way early voting for the March 6th primary election began on this Tuesday, Feb. 20 and will continue through March 2.

The area is slated to receive some rain during this week, and, boy, does the area really need!
