Remarkable season ends at bi-district for Goats
One day after his Groesbeck Goat basketball team lost a heartbreaker 68-67 to the Hearne Eagles ending their season at bi-district, coach Bill Barstow commented, “It was a remarkable season. Groesbeck’s first district championship in 26 years. Co-championship. We learned and grew as a team.” The Goats met the Eagles for the third time this season at Madisonville High School on Tuesday, Feb. 20 for the right to advance to the area round of the UIL playoffs. Groesbeck came in as the number one team in District 19-3A with a 19-14 season record and an 11-3 record in district. Hearne was the fourth-place team in 20-3A with a 15-15 season record and an 8-6 district mark. In their prior two meetings of the season, Groesbeck had withstood fourth quarter rallies by the Eagles to win both times by a two-point margin.
