Chick-Fil-A Food Truck Success Warrants More Visits to Groesbeck

The Chick-Fil-A food truck has serviced Groesbeck (and citizens of neighboring towns) twice in the past two weeks, and based on the positive feedback from both the community and the company, City Administrator Chris Henson plans to nail down a schedule for regular visits.

“We’re in talks about what kind of schedule it will be, whether that’s once a month or once every two weeks,” Henson said. “They have some established routines with other cities, so we’re looking at how can Groesbeck fit into that.”

The Waco-Based Chick-Fil-A food truck reached out to Henson about the possibility of serving the Groesbeck community shortly after Dairy Queen closed its doors. When Henson posted to the City of Groesbeck Facebook page about the idea, the post blew up with nearly 1,000 reactions, 500+ shares and hundreds of comments in support of the opportunity to “Eat Mor Chikin”. On Tuesday, February 20, the food truck came to Groesbeck for the first time, and patrons from Groesbeck, Mexia, Teague, Fairfield, and Buffalo (to name a few) showed up in droves, keeping Chick-Fil-A employees busy from 11am to 8pm.

“They opened up at 11:06. At one o’clock, the first refill truck was there, at 4:00 it was back, and at 6:00 it was back again. The staff inside the truck commented that our turnout was more than they expected, and the manager said the same thing. I had told them there was a possibility we’re going to exceed your capabilities, but he was still surprised at the number of people that came out for it.”

Chick-Fil-A reported serving 450 people to Henson, but the reach was beyond that, as several people in line purchased 6, 10, 12+ separate orders for friends, family or workplace associates.

Though this opportunity was handled by the City of Groesbeck, Economic Development Director TK Presley made rounds to ensure local businesses were not negatively impacted by the hype for the Chick-Fil-A food truck.
