Craig Lenamond

Craig Lenamond, of Groesbeck, passed away at Limestone Medical Center, Groesbeck, on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at age 50.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 25, 2019 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Jon Honea officiating. Burial followed in Cobb Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chester Aills, Douglas Aills, Chris Aills, Michael Lewis, Keith Aills, and David Lewis.

Craig was born August 1, 1968 to Edward Lee Lenamond and Bobbie Jean Castleberry Lenamond in Pasadena. The family had moved to San Antonio by the time Craig was school age and he went through school and graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in San Antonio in 1988. He worked at Goodwill in San Antonio after he graduated.

Craig was diagnosed with Autism at age 2-1/2 and grew up as a special child. In school he had special buddies to look after him, as well as dear neighbor children. Craig loved people, but did not like to be around a noisy crowd of people. All the kids in school loved him, as did his teachers.

He had many special talents with which to enjoy the things around him. His sister taught him how to bowl and roller skate, and he enjoyed these activities. He loved trains and firetrucks, seeing them, photographing them, and drawing them. His interest in trains started as a little boy with a train set his daddy bought him and spent many hours playing with him on the floor, and built him a display board for the train and tracks.

Craig was gifted with many special natural talents, maybe inheriting his talents in photography and art from his father. He loved photography all his life, and had albums full of his life’s collection of photos, with double prints made so his mother also had a copy.

He collected license plates from all states, with a room full of the ones, some given him by his cousins. He liked signs of all kinds and had a collection of stop signs given to him. He also liked to draw signs and painted signs with his friends names. On trips from Houston to San Antonio, he would draw every sign he saw.

Craig was a very talented artist from a very young age. He could draw anything from memory and would draw upon a request from someone. One special drawing he made in high school was of a Dr. Pepper truck, drawn to scale, which the art director had framed, and surprised his mother with this treasure. He has left behind many visible memories of his life’s skills in photography and art.

Craig loved chocolate pie. When he was home at Christmas, their neighbor Patricia Stone had made him a chocolate pie and was planning to bring him one now, when he was home from the hospital in Corsicana, just before his unexpected death.

Craig had never been sick, until appendicitis a few weeks ago. Craig had a fear of hospitals since his father died in a hospital, but he was treated so wonderful by the nurses who loved him, and his doctors at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana, that he adjusted really well to his time spent there. The family deeply appreciates their care for him.

Craig enjoyed life because he enjoyed people and they responded to his great personality by loving him. His grandmother Vera Lenamond really doted on Craig. He will be thoroughly missed by his family and those who knew and loved him.

Craig has been preceded in death by his father, Edward Lee Lenamond (January 28, 1993) as well as his maternal grandparents, Luther and Mary Helen Castleberry and his paternal grandparents, Algie and Vera Lenamond.

He is survived by his mother, Bobbie Jean Lenamond of Groesbeck; his sister and brotherin-law, Jeanette and Paul Riajos of San Antonio; aunt and uncle, Shirley and Roger Freeman of Groesbeck; cousin, Nancy Stockton of Groesbeck; and many other cousins.
