Alice Minchew

On Thursday, November 18, 2021, Alice Minchew passed away at Skilled Care of Mexia, after a short illness.

Per her request there will be no funeral. Graveside services will be held in the Mart City Cemetery on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.

Mrs. Minchew was born September 2, 1932 in Teague to Joshua Canady and Izetta Johnson Canady, the sixth daughter of eight. She was married to Kenneth Minchew on August 9, 1949. To this union, 5 children were born – Carolyn, Johnny, Kay, Dennis and Mark.

Most of her married life was lived in Mart. Alice was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, where she volunteered in the nursery and with the Mother’s-Day-Out program. While her children were in school, she was a room mother, Band Boosters officer, and served in the PTA from 1957 – 1984. She also took an active role in Little League as a team mother, scorekeeper, and coach’s wife while her husband Kenneth coached his 3 boy’s teams for 17 years.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; 6 sisters

– Verina, Maurice, Jackie, Lena Fay, El Norma and Ocha Lee; niece Patricia; nephew Norman; grand-daughter Teri; daughter-in-law Amanda; and great-granddaughter Macy.

Survivors include sons, Mark, Johnny, Dennis (and wife Debbie); daughters, Kay Wester and Carolyn McGilvray (and husband Bernard);11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 greatgreat-grandson; sister Carol Ann Bowers and many nieces and nephews.
