Billie Sharon (Nettles) Ticknor

Billie Sharon (Nettles) Ticknor passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 at Groesbeck LTC Nursing Home, at age 78.

Graveside services will be held at Old Union Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021, with Brother Richard Williams of the Groesbeck Church of Christ officiating.

Billie was born to Leslie and Raye Thomason Nettles on June 20, 1942 at home in the Old Union community. She was the fifth child and she and sister Pat and brother Perry grew up together, since her older sisters had already left home for greener pastures.

Billie and Richard Sherrod were married and to this union were born 5 children. Following his career, they moved often from Groesbeck, Abilene, Hallsville, Oletha, Coolidge, Medina, Lake Limestone, Marlin, and Old Union.

Billie not only was a mother and home-maker but she worked many different jobs outside the home, such as in a restaurant, furniture store, nursing home, Avon sales, care-giver and baby sitter. She always loved children.

Billie later married Tommy Ticknor, and for many years they, along with her son Kevin, volunteered with the West Lake Limestone Fire Department as firefighters and first responders, always being on call.

Billie was a member of the Groesbeck Church of Christ. Friends and neighbors are welcome to attend the graveside services.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Raye Nettles; husband Tommy Ticknor; son Wally Sherrod; brother Perry Nettles and his baby son, Scott Nettles; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Red Martin; nephew, Layne Martin; brothers-in-law, Joe Lincecum and Stanley Boyd.

Survivors are three sons, D.R. Sherrod, Keith Sherrod and Kevin Sherrod and daughter, Leslie Sherrod Ticknor; eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Nettles, Pat Lincecum, and Jo Nettles Boyd; sister-in-law, Karen Nettles; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Old Union Cemetery or Groesbeck Church of Christ.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Hyden and staff at Groesbeck LTC Nursing Home, including nurses and aids, for their excellent love and care of Billie for many years; also thanks to Hospice and the doctors and nurses at Limestone Medical Center. Thanks and bless each of you.
