Brenda Jean Recknor, of Groesbeck, passed away April 13, 2021 at her home.

Pallbearers were Nick Goodman, Jody Goodman, George Massey,  Anson Massey, Adam Massey, Anson Wilson, Kelly Hendrix and Michael Hendrix.   Honorary Pallbearers were Garrett Crane, Cody Crane,  Callaway Crane,  Jackson King, Ryder King, Todd Telford and Bubba Sullivan.

Brenda was born on June 8th in Tyler, TX to Cecil and Mary Alice Hendrix. She grew up in Ben Wheeler, Texas and graduated from Van High School.

Brenda and her husband moved to Groesbeck on April 1, 1973, and had 2 daughters, Angela Ruth and Robin Rachelle, who were her pride and joy. She attended McLennan Community College and earned her Associates’s degree and specialized in early childhood education.  She worked at Mexia State School for over 20 Years.  She worked several positions at MSS, but her last and favorite was the Foster Grandparent program that she helped develop.  She placed many foster grandparents in our local schools and enjoyed being a part of those positive interactions.

She found her best friend, her love, Bobby Recknor, and they were soon united in marriage on May 12, 1997.   A couple of years later, she worked her magic on her budget and sweet-talked Bobby into letting her retire from the State School to spend more time with him, family, and especially the grandkids, and she began to live a life she loved.

She loved to travel with Bobby, enjoyed activities with their friends, having cookouts, people over the house for dominos, and every moment with her grandchildren.  To fund her favorite activities, she started a poodle business and shipped all over the world.  After that business adventure, she began her Scentsy business.  She loved to keep people’s homes smelling good and she especially loved the relationships and newfound friends she gained.

Gran loved the life she and Bobby built; she cherished being his wife, she loved being a mother to her two girls, and she especially loved being Gran to their children.

Her grandkids were the love of her life, and each one of them knew it.  She went to great lengths to make each one feel special.  When they called her name, she came running.  She was their Gran and she loved them, protected them, fed them, and planned her life around them and their activities.  She provided them a fun place to enjoy friends, who affectionally called her Gran, and she soaked it up royally.

Brenda was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Alice Hendrix; her father Cecil Hendrix; stillborn son, Robert Ray Varley II; sister Dale Hendrix; brother Danny Hendrix; half-sister Candy Ramsey; and late husband, Pete Rhodes.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Bobby Recknor; her daughters and spouses, Angela Crane and Randal Crane and Robin King and JJ King; their father, Bob Varley; her grandchildren, Garrett Crane and wife Rockcey, Cody Crane, Casen Crane, Jackson King, Ryder King, Chloe Crane and Callaway Crane; her soon to be born, great-granddaughter, River Lynn; her brother, Larry Hendrix and wife Glenda; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Also holding a special place in her heart were Jason, Kenneth and Genia Rhodes and Sharon Rose and Brandi White, along with extended family and friends, who loved her and will miss her greatly.
