Charlie Andrew Jones, Sr.

Charlie Andrew Jones, Sr. of Groesbeck passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Legends Oak Healthcare in Austin, TX.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, August 26, 2022 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church in Groesbeck with Bishop Jerry Jones, Sr. and Elder Chris Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Lone Star Cemetery.

Charlie was born on March 31st, 1935, to the late Essie and Lena Mae Jones. He attended school in the Thornton School District until such time he decided to leave school, and along with his older brother Essie Jones Jr. and younger brother Lonnie Jones, to work to support their father and mother with family income.

He worked diligently with his support for parents and siblings until he met and married his wife Norma Louise (Mitchell) Jones, on June 12, 1960. To this union four children were born, Felissa, Regina, Tessa and Charlie Jr.

Charlie A. Jones Sr. and his wife Norma were baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost in 1963 under the ministry of Elder Major Garrett and the Bibleway Pentecostal Church in Marlin, Texas. They continued to serve and worship at Bibleway Pentecostal Church under the successor, Elder Floyd Williams until 1967. In 1967, they left and moved their membership to Temple of Holiness, Waco, Texas under the leadership of the late Mother Townsend and the late Elder L.B. Mathews. They also served under Elder Ira Brownlow and his dearly loved brother Suffragan Bishop Jerry A. Jones, who became pastor in 1974.

Under this ministry and under the anointing of God he learned to skillfully play lead guitar, one of his favorite hobbies. He loved gospel and quartet music. He taught his children the importance of the ministry of God’s word through music. That message continues his legacy today as it is currently being taught to his grandchildren, many of which are skilled musicians themselves. “Sing unto Him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise.” Psalm 33:3.

It was also at this great church where God anointed him with another gift, the ministry of teaching His Word. He taught the Adult Sunday School class for many years, and many were touched by God through his teaching. The Jones family served in many capacities at Temple of Holiness and still calls this church home to this day. Later in his life, Charlie A. Jones Sr. was called to be the leader of The Kingdom of Yahshua Church in Groesbeck, Texas until his health started to fail him.

Outside of serving God through music and ministry, Charlie A. Jones Sr. loved his work as a mechanic. He served as Head Mechanic at gas stations in Mexia and Groesbeck, Texas and with the help of his lifelong friend Marcus Hanna, he was able to achieve the ultimate dream of having his own business, Charlie’s Garage, in Groesbeck, Texas, where he worked until his retirement.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Norma L. Jones; brothers, Essie Jones Jr. and Lonnie Jones; sisters, Doletha Bennett and Laverne Jones; daughter, Felissa G. Asberry and grand-daughter, Allyson T. Ellis.

He leaves to cherish his legacy and memory, daughters, Reginal Hall (James) of Austin and Tessa Ellis (Isaac) of San Antonio; son, Charlie A. Jones Jr. (Tracy) of Frisco; Suffragan Bishop Emeritus Jerry A. Jones Sr. and First Lady Alice E. Jones of Groesbeck; brother, Ronnie Jones (Jacqueline) of Mart; sister-in-law, Evelyn Thomas of Groesbeck; spiritual son and daughter, Stanley Lloyd Sr. (Elaine) of Gholson. His four grandsons are: Torvice Asberry (Shondricka), Devaughn Ellis, Jeffrey Hall and Jamari Jones; and one great grand-daughter Ty’lisa Asberry; and three spiritual grandchildren, Stanley Lloyd Jr., Brian Lloyd and Mary Ellen Lloyd (Jenny and Jacob), along with a host of nieces, nephews, and family friends.
