Clyde Wayne Pringle
Clyde Wayne “Slick” Pringle, of Kosse, passed away at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest in Waco on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at age 84.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 19, 2022, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Randy Ayres officiating. Burial followed in Mustang Prairie Cemetery, where many of his family are buried.
Pallbearers were Brent Pringle, Gavin Pringle, Garrett Pringle, Derek Pringle, Payden Pringle, Memphis Pringle, and Koda Pringle.
Clyde, who was known as Wayne by everyone, and whose nickname was “Slick”, was born December 11, 1937, in the Mustang community to Clyde Thomas Pringle and Beatrice Gunn Pringle. He quit school in the eighth grade to work on the family’s dairy farm and pick cotton and watermelons.
Clyde Wayne married Juanita Hall on July 7, 1956, and they raised five of their six sons in Limestone County.
Wayne worked most of his adult life as a heavy equipment operator, working offshore, overseas, as a crane operator for Diamond Off-Shore. After spending 28 days at home, he would fly back every month for 28 days on the job, with his family taking him to Waco to catch the flight to Dallas, from there to LAX in Los Angeles, and then wherever the job was at that time.
Among his many overseas experiences, in Africa the crew had security when they landed and were not allowed a night on the town, yet he and the crew were caught between tribal wars and held hostage 7 days, with the payoff for their release being 50 flat bottom boats with 50 hp Johnson motors and full tanks of gas. In Taiwan, he stood out in his cowboy hat and pointy-toe cowboy boots and had to quit wearing the boots as they attracted too much attention at customs. His work vest contains flag patches from other countries where he had worked: Great Britain, Canada, Afghanistan, Turkey, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, Australia, and more.
After Slick’s 35-year career, he retired from the oil fields in the late 90’s, and then he drove a rock truck for Aggregate Haulers until he was 72. He enjoyed time with his sons walking through the flea markets in Waco and watching the dirt track and drag races at Waco, Elm Mott and Prairie Hill.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and Clyde; his sister, Helen, who died as a child when she fell off a turnip truck and run over by a tractor; and also by four of his sons: Randy Pringle (at birth), Marty Pringle, Jeffery Pringle and Shannon Pringle.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Juanita Pringle; son, Steven Pringle; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Crala Pringle; and 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
